Tourism
Next to a cliff on which harmoniously stand small white fishermen's houses, Carvoeiro Beach is an attractive and picturesque landmark of the Algarve. Its limited extent of sand is highly popular with bathers who take up positions next to fishing vessels that are available for excursions out along the coast exploring the wonderful nearby grottoes and caverns.
Right by the beach, there is a wide range of restaurants, bars and terraces providing the link between the sands and the lively town of Carvoeiro.

Gastronomy
Thanks to the region's long fishing tradition, and just as in other places on the Algarve coast, fish and shellfish are the stars at the table of Carvoeiro's restaurants. As these products arrive on your plate only hours after they have been fished, the intense taste of the sea is always present. A delight!
Thus, some of the dishes you can not fail to experience when visiting this small locality are the delicious cataplanas and caldeiradas of fish, as well as the tuna steak (with almonds or in stomping), the sardines or the octopus of Santa Luzia (stewed in wine, breaded, grilled, with roasted rice or roasted in the oven).
Cockles, sausages, oysters, squid and cuttlefish are some of the most frequent ingredients in the Algarve menus, which you can find in Carvoeiro.
As far as meat is concerned, the dishes of mountain influences such as pork, sausages, "papas moiras" with maize flour and cooking water from the brisket, and dark-meat hams are the highlights. In hunting season, it is still worth to try the delicious hare's soup and partridge stewed.
In relation to traditional sweets, almonds and figs are the protagonists in the Algarve region. Dom Rodrigo, almond morada and marzipan are some of the famous regional sweets. You can also taste the stars and the full figs (stuffed with almonds, sugar and chocolate), fig cheeses (molded with fig paste and ground almonds, chocolate, sugar and secret condiments) and the fish-shaped sweets or chicken, which also use ground or whole figs, cut to the scissors.
If you like wine, during your stay in Carvoeiro you can try Algar Seco, a dry appetizer wine, unique in the genre in Portugal, produced by the cooperative cellar of Lagoa.
