Being two priests in Arraial d´Ajuda, founding a House and not having water that was good to drink, wishing there a fountain, God wanted that in this way a mountain fell and with the opening of the earth the most beautiful fountain that now exists in that land. And because the house they founded is invoked by Our Lady, it is called the source of the same Lady ´´.





Several other unofficial versions circulate among the natives and residents, such as those who bathe in the spring water always return to Arraial. The fact remains that the Church remains the oldest local landmark, and around it the first buildings appeared where the Jesuits rested after arriving in canoes and riding animals.





Even in the most remote times, the news of the miracles attributed to the Fonte de N. Sra. D´Ajuda started to attract a lot of people and so the Jesuits opened their doors to host the pilgrims free of charge. To join these, at the end of the seventies, the first hippies came (on the Arembepe route), and Europeans were always arriving, joining their culture and often their DNA to this dark and welcoming people. The Church houses were no longer enough to house those who arrived and the first inns emerged from the frank hospitality of the people of Bahia.



The coconut palms, the white sand, the unhurried talking, the hammocks on the balconies and the colorful houses, make up a typical northeastern setting, however, thanks to the influence of the large flow of foreigners, citizens of the world, it is sometimes easier to find one sushi-bar, or an international menu, than a golden palm oil, despite being in Bahian territory.

5 km from Porto Seguro, the district of Arraial d Ajuda enchants by the paradisiacal beaches and the typical warm climate of Bahia. In addition, the nightlife of this city boils with musical attractions, ranging from MPB to blues, and with the traditional capeta drink.

The vegetation of Arraial d Ajuda is the Atlantic Forest. Plants such as bromeliads, ferns, palm trees, jacaranda-da-bahia, cabreúva, ipês, palmito, lichens and mosses coexist with grandiose trees such as jequetibá, fig trees and guapuruvas.



The trunks of the latter are usually covered by epiphytic plants, that is, species that are born on top of the others, without taking their sustenance from them like orchids.

Daily flights depart from all capitals of the country to Porto Seguro and there are also regular lines of executive buses, common and beds from most Brazilian capitals. BR-101 is interconnected to the entire road network in Brazil, the south of Bahia has a 64 km paved branch that gives access to BR 101, at the Eunápolis interchange.



On the way to Porto Seguro, at km 38 there is a roundabout on the Vale Verde road that gives direct access to Arraial d Ajuda. With this shortcut, you don't need to take the ferry and save time and money.



Ferries for vehicles and pedestrians operate 24 hours a day and the crossing takes between 10 to 15 minutes. After disembarking, take vans, buses or taxis that will drop you off at your destination. From there to Arraial the distance is 4 km.

Between the trails of Arraial d Ajuda and the neighboring villages, there are almost a dozen indigenous tribes. These are usually inhabited by fishermen and artisans. Vila de Itaporanga is one of the examples of indigenous groups that can be visited.



Inside kayaks, visitors can challenge Trancoso's rivers and beaches. The activity has two tour options, the first 5 km and the second 12 km.



Biodiversity, water quality and good winds have made Parracho beach an ideal spot for sport fishing and windsurfing and diving. In the latter, there are scripts for free, autonomous and saturation modalities.



Bike rides on ecological trails.



The purpose of trekking is to reach the top of the cliffs at Pitanga beach. These reach 50 meters in height and access is via a trail in the middle of the dry sandbank surrounded by rivers and birds in the region. Paragliding flights can be made from the top of the cliffs and during the tour it is possible to see Monte Pascoal, the first point of land sighted by the crew of Pedro Álvares Cabral



Mucugê beach has the shape of a half moon, it is the closest to the village and also the most frequented. The waves are weak and break on the reefs near the coast.



Praia do Espelho, in addition to bathing in clean, transparent water, tourists can go hiking in the region.



Taípe beach, isolated by cliffs that reach 20 meters. It is also the mouth of the Taípe River, which attracts tourists with its dark waters due to the mangrove vegetation. It is a great place for fishing.



Caraíva village, region has a great biodiversity. Clean beaches, lagoons and rivers are the strong point of the locality that can be covered by hiking trails, buggies and small boats.
