The Ribeirão Fountain is a valuable example of colonial architecture. It was built in 1796 by the governor Dom Fernando Antonio de Noronha. Located in a large courtyard, covered with stonework and surrounded by two walls, the Ribeirão Fountain is decorated with a pediment decorated with religious symbols that are supported by two side pilasters.
The water comes out of five stone frowns with bronze toecaps, which are fixed to the wall. After falling into a tank, excess water is drained to the old Caju Beach. Most interesting about the fountain are the underground galleries, which form a true maze. In previous centuries, they were connecting channels between the churches built by the Jesuits in the city.
There is a Ludovicense legend that tells that inside the fountain there is a snake that will destroy St. Louis the day the head meets the tail. The Ribeirão Fountain is located between the streets of Afogados and Barrocas. Since 1950 is listed by IPHAN - Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage.
