Known as Robert Burns’ Country, Ayrshire is home to Burns’ Cottage and Heritage Centre in Alloway, just a few minutes' drive from Canter Holm. The cottage aims recreate the lifestyle during the time of Scotland's greatest bard whilst the Heritage Centre, next to Brig O' Doon (where legend has it Tam O' Shanter was chased by witches) enables you to learn about the life and times of the poet and his famous cronies.
Nearby you can also visit Ayr Race Course or Culzean Castle and Gardens. Alternatively, why not try your hand at water-sports, fishing or bowling. There are a number of beautiful walking routes nearby, please ask at the house for more information.
If you are looking for a peaceful round of golf, there are a number of popular courses nearby, including: Turnberry and Royal Troon (just 20 minutes from Ayr); Belleisle; Seafield; and Dalmilling.
